the pond skater ( gerris lacustris)  is a native aquatic insect similar in appearence and behaviour to the water  ,common in most freshwater habitat including ponds ,lakes ,rivers ,ditches and even puddles ,the pond skater lives on the surface of the water where it feeds on insects that fall on the water .
