The magenta mystery snail (Pomacea bridgesii) is a popular freshwater aquarium snail known for its vibrant pink to deep magenta shell. Native to South America, particularly slow-moving rivers and wetlands in countries like Brazil and Paraguay, this species belongs to the apple snail family (Ampullariidae).

Magenta mystery snails are prized in aquariums not only for their striking color but also for their practical benefits. They help clean tanks by feeding on algae, leftover fish food, and decaying plant matter. Unlike some other snail species, Pomacea bridgesii typically does not damage healthy live plants, making it a favorite among planted tank enthusiasts.

These snails can grow up to about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter and have both gills and a lung, allowing them to breathe underwater and at the surface. They lay clusters of bright pink eggs above the waterline, which hatch in 2–3 weeks under proper conditions.

Peaceful and hardy, the magenta mystery snail thrives in warm, clean freshwater aquariums with a secure lid (as they can climb out). With proper care, they usually live 1–2 years.
