Setting up a Wildlife Pond
whether you have a large piece of land or a small urban back garden, adding a wildlife pond of any size can help your local wildlife. From amphibians and insects to birds and mammals, heres how to do it!
My Story
The size of the pond will depend on the size of your garden. Even a small container or basin dug into the ground can attract a surprising amount of wildlife, Insects like non biting mosquitos, pond skaters and water beetles will live in even the smallest puddles thus attracting larger animals like amphibians. Many amphibians like frogs and palmate newts actually prefer smaller ponds as they have less predators and will often breed in puddles and ditches in the wild.

Using pond liner is usually easier than plastic preformed pond casings as you can choose the size depth and dimensions of the pond instead of trying to dig it to an exact shape which can be difficult ,using clay is also an option ( brick earth) or ( lias clay )
having a marsh area around the pond the the edges will increase plant biodiversity - plants like water forget me not ,marsh marigold and ragged robin will all grow well here

having some shelves around the edges for marginal plants is important ,the depth of these shelves should be between 15 to 40 cm ,plants like reedmace ,iris ,
