axolotls are large fully aquatic salamanders ( there is also a terrestrial form ) reaching a max size of 12 inches /30cm , they retain external gill which most newts and salamanders lose when they become adults ,the axolotl is not native to the uk and cannot survive uk winters therefore it is not suitable for outdoor ponds but can be kept in cold water aquariums ideal temperature is around 16 -20 C ,they can be kept with some fish species like small fast moving minnows ,but tend to do better on there own ,axolotls will eat ,bloodworm ,daphnia ,earth worms ,aquatic insects ,and will some times eat sinking pellets.
